March 2025 officially marks 5 years of the release of the LR01, the inaugural product launched by Superstitch, coinciding with the opening of our Rue Racine permanent production shopfront. To celebrate this important milestone, we have created an extremely limited edition special LR01 model.
The philosophy of Superstitch products has always been to replicate to every minute detail, denim garments of the golden era. For this special milestone, however, we have allowed ourselves a small indulgence of using a wholly anachronistic fabric: a 13oz unsanforized loomstate cotton selvedge denim that is typical of the 1940s. This is not a fabric that should be seen on a 70s period jean. The idea was born out of a small fancy of our founder to see one Superstitch’s most iconic models reimagined in a different fabric, and therefore, a different fading and aging.
The LR01 5th Anniversary represents our deep appreciation for all of our loyal customers from all over the globe who continue to seek out the LR01 year after year, such that while the LR product line expands, enthusiasm for the LR01 has only grown. Importantly, the L and R in our product name prefixes are dedicated to two people who are of utmost importance for our founder and Superstitch’s identity. They are the initials of Lydie and René, grandparents of our founder, to whom he dedicated his brand.
The LR01 5th Anniversary model is available in 100 pairs only.
The LR01 5th Anniversary Limited Edition continues to reproduce, without compromise, the iconic 1972 – 1974, 501 ’66s type construction that Superstitch has become known for: high waist, true straight leg, button fly.
Many special features have been incorporated in this special edition, including the very special 5th Anniversary label and the special patch with a specially developed paper material that will develop a ‘crispy’ quality as it ages, which is iconic of jeans of the era. For the coin pocket, the threads are lemon yellow, inspired by a specific 66 Type ‘72 model from our founder’s personal collection: a particularity of jeans of this period was that threads were chosen and placed randomly. It is this haphazard charm that our founder sought to embody in the LR01 5th Anniversary model.
For this very limited edition, the LR01 has been reimagined using 13oz unsanforized loomstate cotton selvedge denim. Notably, this is the fabric that was proudly developed for the LR13 Type I Jacket.
For this fabric, the extensive development resulted in a 13 oz unsaforized loomstate cotton selvedge denim, woven by old electric shuttle loom. The conditions of weavings were specifically calibrated, including the thread tension and room humidity, to achieve the iconic ‘dekoboko’ (凸凹) texture, which only grows more rich in colour and feel with ageing.
